A Second Season, Higher Stakes
Wrexham AFC enter the 2026/27 Sky Bet Championship having finished seventh in their debut season — two points behind Hull City, who claimed the final play-off spot and subsequently won promotion to the Premier League. The Red Dragons know exactly what they are capable of, and what they narrowly missed.
The fixture list gave Parkinson's side no room to ease in. Cardiff City away on the opening Monday night, live on Sky Sports — the first league meeting between the Welsh clubs since March 2002, and the first ever at the Cardiff City Stadium, ended 1-1. Within the opening six weeks, Wrexham face Burnley, West Ham United and Southampton — three sides freshly relegated from the Premier League with significant budgets and ambitions. Wolverhampton Wanderers arrive at STōK Cae Ras in November.
The season closes on 1 May at home against Bristol City — a fixture Wrexham fans will hope arrives as a promotion celebration.

Recent Results & Match Reports
Birmingham dominated large stretches of this one at STōK Cae Ras, with defender Phil Neumann heading in twice either side of the break to hand Wrexham their first home league defeat of the season. Callum Doyle's well-taken equaliser briefly levelled things early in the second half, and Wrexham pushed hard for a second — Kieffer Moore and Sam Smith both went close late on — but couldn't find a way back, leaving Parkinson's side still searching for their first league win.
A lively first home game of the season in front of Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney ended level. Watford led inside 14 minutes through Luca Kjerrumgaard's header, but Danny Imray levelled shortly after for his first Wrexham goal following a slick breakout led by Lewis O'Brien. Both sides hit the woodwork as the game opened up, and Wrexham remain unbeaten but still waiting for their first win of the Championship campaign.
Wrexham made the perfect start to their first Welsh derby in the league in 24 years, Kieffer Moore firing them ahead inside three minutes at Cardiff City Stadium. The Red Dragons had the better of the chances throughout — 18 shots to Cardiff's 11 — but couldn't find a second, and were made to pay deep into stoppage time when Rubin Colwill curled a stunning free-kick past Anthony Patterson to snatch a point for the hosts.
Wrexham's Carabao Cup campaign ended at the first hurdle at the Riverside Stadium. Debutant summer signing Will Lankshear settled a tight contest in the 61st minute, swivelling to hook home a first-time volley after good build-up play. Wrexham had chances of their own — Danny Imray and Sam Smith both went close in the first half — but couldn't find a way past home goalkeeper Sol Brynn.
